A delegation from the British Embassy in Lithuania visited the Research Council of Lithuania

On the 28th of March, the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL) was visited by the United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador to Lithuania, Brian Olley, and the new Head of the UK's Science and Innovation Network for the North and the Baltic States, Craig Jantzen. The purpose of the visit was to discuss existing partnerships with UK scientists and new opportunities for collaboration. During the visit, the delegation consisting of UK Ambassador Brian Olley, Craig Jantzen, Head of the Science and Innovation Network for the Nordic and Baltic Countries, and Miglė Masaitytė, Science and Innovation Coordinator for the Baltic States, were presented with the main activities of the LMT, international cooperation programmes, and Lithuania's participation in the main EU funded partnerships.
The meeting with Dr Gintaras Valinčius, Chairman of the LMT, Prof. Habil. Dr Eugenijus Butkus, Chairman of the RCL Board, and Dr Reda Cimmperman, Scientific Secretary, focused on the cooperation initiative between ministers and experts from the UK, the Nordic countries and the Baltic countries, and the links between the European Horizon Programme for Research and Innovation. The UK Embassy delegation briefed RCL on the UK's first International Technology Strategy, adopted last week, and on the implementation of the May 2022 Foreign Ministers' Declaration on Bilateral Cooperation, advancing studies, science and innovation. The UK Ambassador underlined that the Declaration of Cooperation focuses on cooperation in education, science and culture.
During the visit, the team of RCL and European Horizon National Contact Points thanked them for their close cooperation in promoting partnerships between UK and Lithuanian universities and research institutions and assured them of their desire to develop this cooperation in the future. Dr. G. Valinčius, Chairman of the RCL, pointed out that cooperation in the field of IT and education would be useful, especially under the European Horizon "Dissemination of Progress and Development of the European Research Area", and that they would also like to develop links with the UK Research Councils and to collaborate in the evaluation of Lithuanian research and experimental development.
