Graduated from Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (now Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) as a Civil Engineer in 1984. In 1990, obtained the Degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences at Dnepropetrovsk Civil Engineering Institute (in 1994, dissertation nostrified as Doctorate Degree in Technical Sciences). Obtained the Doctorate Degree of Technical Sciences (habilitation, civil engineering) for the dissertation on the subject ‘Building Life-Cycle Process Multi-criteria Solution System’ in 24 September 1999. Head of Department of Construction Management and Real Estate at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Full Member of Lithuanian Academy of Science (Honorary Doctor).
Main research fields: biometric technologies, intelligent decision making support systems, affective computing, life-cycle process of built environments, multi-criteria analysis methods, smart homes and cities. Supervisor for 15 successfully defended dissertations.
129 scientific articles printed in Clarivate Analytics Database (h-index – 25, citations – 2171) journals: Expert Systems with Applications, Computers and Education, Cities, Applied Soft Computing, Land Use Policy, Energy and Buildings, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Ecological Indicators, Automation in Construction and others. In 2015, published the monograph ‘Biometric and Intelligent Decision Making Support’ with the publishing house Springer.
Participated in more than 60 international projects, 9 of them funded by the European Union, 5-7 under framework programmes and 5 funded under the Horizon 2020 programme.
Editor of international Q1 journals Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Associate Editor of Ecological Indicators.
In 2004, received the Lithuanian Science Award (with E. K. Zavadsky) for the 1996–2003 papers on the subject ‘Modelling in Construction’ (Lith. Statybos šakos modeliavimas) on methods, modelling, decision making support and information systems, Internet technologies and practical application.
